The Pandemic Made These Plastic Surgeries More Popular

Plastic Surgery Detroit, MI

The pandemic changed the plastic surgery field in several ways, and once the country opened back up, plastic surgeons saw a boom in business. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) released the statistics for 2020, which shows which procedures and treatments men and women favored during and after lockdown. All in all, Americans spent over $9 billion on plastic surgery and minimally invasive procedures in 2020, fueling the industry’s return.

Dr. Mune Gowda & Associates offer a full spectrum of plastic surgery and non-surgical options to patients in Novi, Troy and nationwide.

The “Zoom Boom” of Facial Rejuvenation

The pandemic normalized remote work as we all sheltered in place. With more video meetings using platforms such as Zoom, people found themselves looking at their appearance on-screen more than ever before. Those moderate to severe lines and wrinkles that didn’t phase you when you worked in person may bother you now. This Zoom effect created a rising interest in facial rejuvenation procedures and treatments, such as facelift, Botox, dermal fillers, chemical peels and lasers. Botulinum Toxin Type A injectables (Botox, Xeomin, Dysport and Jeuveau) were the most popular minimally-invasive treatment in 2020.

Less Time Off Work and a Discreet Recovery

Working from home provided the perfect opportunity for people to have the plastic surgery they always wanted but couldn’t fit into their busy schedules. Working remotely not only allows you to recover without prying eyes from friends, family and coworkers but reduces the time off you need to take for recovery. Invasive procedures such as breast augmentation or a facelift often require several weeks off work. Now, many patients can resume working sooner from the comfort of their bed or couch while they continue to heal.

Body Changes During the Pandemic

Tummy tucks and liposuction were the top procedures for women in 2020, many of whom reported they wanted body contouring due to weight fluctuations during quarantine. ASPS reports that women were 11 percent more interested in plastic surgery and cosmetic treatments than before COVID-19, and those who were interested before were 35 percent more likely to pursue the procedure in 2021. Overall, Americans have better attitudes toward plastic surgery and improving one’s appearance than before the pandemic began.
