The contours of your chin, jawline and neck significantly affect how young and healthy your face looks. If this area is not as taut or smooth as it used to be, you have several treatment options with Dr. Mune Gowda. Here, Dr. Gowda breaks down two options, neck lift and neck liposuction, to help you understand what the best solution for your needs might be.
What Neck Liposuction Does
Neck liposuction gets rid of excess fat cells that give the neck and area under the chin a pudgy or lumpy appearance. Dr. Gowda uses an instrument called a cannula (a thin tube), with vacuum suction to remove fat deposits. Instead of simply taking out a lot of fat, the plastic surgeon also contours the remaining fat for a smooth-looking result.
Who Can Benefit from Neck Liposuction?
You could benefit from neck liposuction if your primary concern is excess fat on your neck and chin. You may have a double chin or bulges on your neck that make you look heavier than you really are.
It is important to clarify that neck liposuction is only a suitable solution if your skin has a good amount of “spring” — or elasticity. It needs to tighten over the area once the fat has been removed. If your neck skin is loose, saggy or wrinkly, you will not see the maximum benefits of neck liposuction.
Dr. Gowda will evaluate the elasticity of your skin during your surgical consultation and advise whether it has enough spring to bounce back after liposuction.
What Neck Lift Does
Neck lift improves the look of the neck by addressing problems with the neck muscles, skin and fatty tissue. Through incisions made behind the ear/under the chin, excess fat and skin are removed and the neck muscles are tightened. The neck skin is re-draped smoothly to create a graceful, elegant neckline.
Who Can Benefit from Neck Lift?
You could benefit from neck lift if you are concerned about excess fat and skin. The angle between your chin and neckline may be obscured by excess fat or folds of skin, causing your chin to appear to melt into your neck. Your skin may be loose or saggy, creating what some patients affectionately refer to as “turkey wattle.” You may have lax neck muscles that cause the appearance of vertical cords running down the front of your neck.
Dr. Gowda will examine your neck, chin and jawline and advise whether neck lift is the most comprehensive solution to your needs.
