How to Tighten Loose, Sagging Skin on Your Face

Surgeries & Treatment for Tightening Face Skin Troy, MI

Does your reflection reveal sagging, loose skin where it was once firm and tight? With aging, facial skin becomes laxer, but there are plenty of ways to turn back the hands of time and enjoy tighter, more youthful skin once more. Southeastern Michigan plastic surgeon Dr. Mune Gowda discusses the surgical and non-surgical methods of tightening loose, sagging skin on your face.

1. Facelift

Facelift is the classic surgical procedure for tightening sagging skin. As a person ages, the skin and tissues of the face loses laxity. That’s because the body produces less collagen, the protein that keeps skin firm. That looseness soon deteriorates to sagging and drooping. Facelift tightens skin and the underlying deep tissues.

While facelift is an invasive procedure requiring a few weeks of downtime, the results last for many years. Along with skin tightening, the entire face is rejuvenated. Erase a decade or more while looking completely natural.

2. Laser Resurfacing

Laser skin rejuvenation helps tighten skin while also promoting collagen growth for plumper skin. We offer the following laser treatments:

  • Active FX Laser by Lumenis
  • SmartSkin CO2 Laser by Cynosure
  • Intense pulsed light (IPL)

All laser resurfacing treatments are customized for individual patient needs. Along with skin tightening, laser treatments can lessen the appearance of deep wrinkles, acne scars and hyperpigmentation.

Patients may need several treatments to achieve the desired results. The effects may last a year or more, but regular maintenance can keep loose skin at bay. Laser resurfacing requires little or no downtime.

3. Radiofrequency Energy Treatments

Radiofrequency energy treatments harness radiofrequency technology to reverse sagging skin. Needles deliver radiofrequency energy to generate heat below the skin’s surface and stimulate collagen production. These treatments reverse the effects of time.

4. Injectables

Some dermal fillers, such as Juvéderm and Restylane, may improve the appearance of loose skin by restoring volume. Injectables typically focus on wrinkle reduction, but the facial tissues naturally sag over time, with fat deposits shrinking and sinking lower. These fillers may improve loose skin in the cheeks and the overall contour of the face for a youthful appearance with more taut skin. Dermal filler results may last up to a year or longer, and maintenance treatments can help you maintain your facial shape.
